Vivi's Bridge Camera Challenge: Macro Photography

Macro Photography options are numerous for DSLR users, which I am not. A lot of dedicated macro lenses improve the magnification capabilities of a camera of which I don’t have! But these limitations will not deter me from doing what I love, a lot may say I can’t do it, but I am more stubborn than that to be discouraged.

I must admit that it becomes frustrating sometimes when you have this “shot” envisioned in your mind and your camera can’t deliver! Urgh! But it still does not make me rush to buy a DSLR.. ..just yet! And a challenge always fuels me to prove otherwise… which I hope I am successful at! Haha! The only thing I may have is my fixed lens camera and my tripod but my edge would always be my passion for photography and the euphoria it brings me after seeing the end result! Priceless!

With the limitations of my bridge camera, these shots are the  "nearest" and clearest I could get, well let me know if my camera got a passing grade! Smiley

Enjoy some of my macro shots…

Camera Used: Panazonic Lumix FZ35
Photographer: Vivi

Thanks for viewing!!  I Hope you enjoyed the photos... Smiley

  1. From Jeff,

Your pictures are amazing just as they are. I offer this observation for thought. What does a man who is challenge by sight, a woman who is challenge by mobility and a child who is challenge by speech? Each are required to depend on their other senses. Judging by these shots, you have made a tremendous leap with your fixed lens because you have tuned your eye to look for the things that a DSLR would have picked out easily.... Now just think what your shots will look like when you do get a DSLR in your hands :) Happy shooting:))

  11. Amazing pictures. I love photography too, but I don't have a DSLR of my own. This proves that art is bound on what you have, but it's the eye that matters. The camera that you use even though it's a fixed lens camera, it is a bit on the high end. It is cheaper than getting a DSLR. I'm very impressed with your shots. Now I'm thinking of getting the same one too.

  13. Before, I dont like the concept of me going Macro in my photos but with this one? I love the photos and convinced me more to take a second look at it. As one can see in my photos, i am more into wide lenses and focus lenses but not into macro.

Needlessly, the photos speak for itself. I love the one of the lily flower.

  15. In one of my previous blog posts about my point and shoot camera, someone commented that reads: "it's not the number of pixels or the type of camera, it's how you capture your subject" which I believe is true.

Either way, you've done a great job with all these photos.

  16. I would not know that you took those pictures using a non-DSLR camera if you did not say. Great pictures indeed. Keep it up!

  19. You definitely have the skill in photography. As much as I want to not let you buy a DSLR (because it's expensive, bulky, complicated and you have to change lens from time to time), I still can't help but say "Please, buy a DSLR". Those shots are pretty awesome. And it will be better with DSLR camera. I suggest you'll go for a Nikon if you really want to get serious with photography. (sorry Canon users hihihi). By the way, are you familiar with blipfoto.com? I'm pretty sure you will like it there. :) I have a stagnant account there because I'm in a photography hibernation as of the moment. hehehe.

  20. your shots are inspiring. i have a dslr i bought 4 years ago (D40) because of the interest in photography. but didn't find time to hone the interest and develop the skills. i hope i could transform this frustration into fruition.

    really great shots!

    1. Wow 4 years! Sometimes just looking at great photos will inspire you. Reading photography tips also helps but I also I have to warn you, when you read about those technical terms like shutter speed, aperture, f-stop, focal length etc may turn you off.. Hehe but there's always a best approach. I bought a book for basic photography and I enjoyed it. As long as there's an explanation in lay mans terms we are always safe. Good luck on your photography! ;-)

  21. Hi- Violy I mentioned to you that I'm looking for camera to buy in my previous comments. I saw your photography its very impressive. I purchase my SLR Canon EOS1100D today. Before I buy I spoke few camera expert here in the UK as well few professional photographer I know and some friends. It's hard to decide which camera to buy really, it took me 3 months to gathered all data and information. Now, well see how good this camera I bought. BTW thanks for your information.

    1. Wow that is great Jenny! For a dslr a choice is only between canon or Nikon, you are safe with both. Good luck on your photography! Now you have to buy lenses depending on your needs... Will look forward to seeing your photos! Cheers! ;-)

  28. great macro shots! I always believe na its not the camera but the photographer, there would be limitation but it is up to the user to challenge that.. and your photos is an example :)

  29. love your photos. the images are so vivid. =)

  30. wow. ang galing. you are using compact cam? grabe!!!

  31. Not bad, they're more close up than macro though. You can get older dslr cameras as cheap as a bridge cam, it's not so amazing when you think about it. A cheap 50mm lens and reverse rings would get you much, much closer for about the same cost.

I started out on a bridge cam too, and used to think my close ups were macro, until i went the cheap dslr way and method and was wowed by actual macro. Sometimes constructive criticism is far better for you than false praise for the sake of it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi thanks! Just you saying its not bad is enough to make me smile. Thanks for the constructive criticism I appreciate it. Some are giving ( I wont say false though) praises because they own a dslr but can't get good shots. For that I'm already proud I got mine on a bargain for a phase out unit so it's really cheap. I called this post a "challenge" which means I could fail and for you I failed which is ok with me. I don't have plans of buying a dslr coz I travel a lot it's quite heavy for me. Thanks for dropping by, next time pls put your name, it is better to thank someone specific than an anonymous. Thanks again! ;)
