Summer is here! who wants some Gelato??

Summer is officially here! And the Heat is really ON with the temperature even reaching 36 degrees celsius in the Philippines. For some this is the time to hit the beach, but not for Vivi, I am not even thinking of going to the beach and being under the scorching sun for hours! Unless someone will ask me for a night swimming that one I will not hesitate to say no. Times like this, I stay indoors to keep cool, problem is if you don't have an aircon at home, and your electric fan is not enough to make you comfortable, what is your immediate relief to keep yourself cool?? Number 1 in my list is Ice Cream!! How about a notch higher and trying a gelato?

Many of us would think that Ice Cream and Gelato are one and the same. Well not! Gelato is the Italian word for "frozen". The difference mainly between the two is in the flavor and texture. Gelato is made with fresh and genuine ingredients, it is lighter because it contains less butter fat and less air. Its main ingredients are fresh milk and egg yolks mixed with sugar and cream.

yummy!!
Ice creams are made with fresh cream (not condensed or powdered milk), real eggs, and natural flavorings. Quality ingredients aside, lesser ice creams also have more air whipped in. As much as half the carton may be air, in fact. More air--or "overrun"--means softer ice cream that scoops more easily and melts more quickly. Premium ice creams have very little air added; gelato has no air added at all. - Alta Cucina

our favorite Gelateria in Rome, every afternoon we drop by here for our daily dose of gelato!

To summarize, Gelato has much more flavour and it is smoother than ice cream. Have you tried Gelato? You should and afterwards you will not eat ice cream the same way ever again!
