A Glimpse into a Book Lover's Mind

In my world I'm presently a demon hunter add up the Lara Croft costume and my red Ferrari car. I had my share of unforgettable exes... One is a vampire, another one an English Baron, the latest one can travel through time. I'm presently dating a semi-god, cool huh? I have a half demon for a best friend, I used to hang out with werewolves but I got tired of their howling, so next...oh sorry no, zombies are not welcome in my world!

I have the talent to walk on ropes, I can get things with just a snap of a finger, I can apparate and travel the world in minutes! Ow have I mentioned that I'm about to discover the cure for cancer? And I know who assassinated JFK, and hey I can win a pageant too with my killer body and mind, I can win any case in court, I can be who I want to be and I'm not scared of any eventuality!

Need I say more? I have a wide imagination because I read.

In today's world of so many distractions, Internet, blue rays, televisions and PSP's, book reading has taken a backseat. But not to a book lover like me. Reading is one of the best habits you can have to improve the quality of your life and mind.
sorting my books
I always travel with my books and I have accumulated a lot since college and BookSale is my best friend!

Benefits of reading:
  • it improves your vocabulary-It improves concentration and discipline because it requires brain power, imagine sitting in one place and shunning the world and just concentrating on the subject for a certain period of time.
  • it exercises your mind by broadening your thinking horizon
  • it makes reality easier to deal with, you learn to inject mystery, humor and excitement in your day to day life
  • and most of all it is a stress reliever! It makes you escape from reality and so engulfed in a place and time dictated by what you are reading and all your senses are active concentrating your thoughts just between the pages.

For me reading is still the best escape. I'm presently reading the book series of Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and I'm loving it! Highly recommended. So what have you been reading lately?

  1. Same here sis, I'm also into reading, I have the complete books of Ian Flemings' James Bond but thru online I was able to get in touch with the author here.

An avid follower of the Famous John Grisham Novels, this time a collection of Hard Bound Novels and Movies.

" Reading is one of the best habits you can have to improve the quality of your life and mind. " - very true

  3. Oh Ms. Violy, did you also hate me? I used to watch zombie movies and I enjoy a lot.
I couldn't agree with you more. Reading has a big impact in our lives. And it helps us function our mind more. When our minds are idle, it lessens our creativity, stagnates our level of thinking and presses down our imaginations.
    Let's read and read!

  4. BookSale is also my friend! lol

Reading indeed is becoming a lost art.

How about ebooks? Are you getting more ebooks as compared to actual books?

I read mostly non-fiction :) But Non-Fiction wise, Murakami is God. lol

    1. Hi Argee, yes I tried reading ebooks actually it is convenient when traveling but if I am home I still prefer reading the physical book. And if the author is a favorite of mine I want an actual book for my collection. I don't feel completely satisfied not seeing the book in my shelf.. hehe ;)

  5. I kind of miss the manual flipping of novels' pages and the smell of freshly-bought paperback. I don't get to read these days as much as I used to before I became a virtual freelancer. Internet has given me so much time to focus more on eBooks and online articles, which is what I prefer.

  7. I admire bookworms! Although I cannot be counted as one, I love readings but long novels are just not my kind of fancy. But everything you said about its benefits are true, that's why I introduced my kid to books as early as when he's 6 months old. Before he turned 2, he can already narrate to me his favorite story :)

  8. I love this post, especially the first paragraph. And I agree! Internet is fun but to us book lovers, there's a special giddiness when you pick up a book, lie on bed, and just begin reading. The last novel I read was To Fear a Painted Devil by Ruth Rendell.

  13. Sad to say, I've neglected my books. :( I love Paulo Coelho and have a complete collection of his works. Maybe this is a sign that I should start reading those paper backs again. I just can't help that I have a gadget that can store ebooks for my convenience.

  18. Me loves reading, too. Grade school was Three Investigators (Alfred Hitchcock series); high school, it's good ol Sydney Sheldon (love the sex scenes, he he..); and college, it's poetry collection books. Although I read mostly business books now, I still find the time to grab my poetry books, just to keep me in place.

  32. Actually you can improve your conversational skills and diction by reading books aloud. I am a late bloomer when it comes to books as I completed reading my first book when I was already working. On how I survive all those book reviews studying... I read the synopsis at the back and come up with the book review from that. Alas, my training on having a creative mind. => I now read books. I've gone over all of Sydney Sheldon, Dan Brown, Harry Potter books and even Lord of the rings books. And the books we did use when we were in college (Accounting books), I use it when I have a hard time sleeping. =>
