The Colosseum , Rome

The Colosseum  (Colosseo) is one of the most famous landmark of Rome, Italy. It was originally called Flavian Amphitheather and the largest ever built in the Roman Empire which can seat 50,000 spectators. It was commisioned in AD 72 by Emperor Vespasian and  completed by his son, Titus, in  80 AD.
The Signage at the entrance of the Colosseum recording the contributions of various
popes.
The Colosseum was originally used for gladiatorial shows ( deadly combats), wild animal fights and other gatherings for public viewing.

"Roman gladiators were usually slaves, prisoners of war or condemned criminals. Most were men, but there were a few female gladiators. These combats were attended by the poor, the rich, and frequently the emperor himself. As gladiators fought, vicious cries and curses were heard from the audience around the Roman Colosseum. One contest after another was staged in the course of a single day. Should the ground become too soaked with blood, it was covered over with a fresh layer of sand and the performance went on. The gladiatorial games continued until Christianity progressively put an end to those parts of them which included the death of humans."

Let me show you some areas of the ruins:

Interior of the Colosseum:

The arena measures 83 meters by 48 meters. The underground consisted of a two-level network of tunnels and cages beneath the arena where gladiators and animals were held before contests began.

Our tour guide lecturing about the history of the Colosseum.

The exterior of the Colosseum:

The outer wall is estimated to have required over 100,000 cubic meters (131,000 cu yd) of travertine stone which were set without mortar held together by 300 tons of iron clamps.

the Colosseum from the main road (train station)

Arch of Constantine:

Just outside the Colosseum is the famous and well photographed Arch of Constantine (Arco di Costantino), a 25m high monument built in AD315 to mark the victory of Constantine over Maxentius at Pons Milvius.

The Roman Coliseum is located in the heart of piazza del Colosseo, right across the B(blue) metro line train station.

Pura Tirta Empul is a Hindu temple located in the Village of Tampak Siring, Bali Island, Indonesia. It is considered as the holiest temple on the island whose sacred spring is said to have curative properties which the Hindus use for purification.

Boracay Island, Philippines- One of the Best Beaches in the World

white Beach, Boracay

If someone will ask you to jot down your personal choice of the World's Best Beaches, what would be on your list?... hmmmm maybe you will include a beach from Cancun? Grand Cayman? Jamaica? Dominican Republic? Maldives? Bora-bora? Hawaii? Pinoys are so proud that our Boracay is mostly on the top of the list. Hooray Boracay!!

Boracay is a small tropical paradise island in Aklan province in the Central Visayas region, Philippines. Measuring only at 4.5 miles long, it is world famous for its white powdery sand.

White Beach is Boracay's most famous beach, 3 km of white fine sand, a home to so many resorts from backpacker to high-end hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, clubs , water /island activities, you name it they have it.

You wanna know why White Beach is the best beach in Boracay?? I won't say much about White Beach, this time let my pictures do the talking...

Well Boracay offers so much more than White Beach, check my blog also of other must visit places/beaches in Boracay:

How to  go to Boracay Island:

Take a flight to either Caticlan or Kalibo airport from major airports in the Philippines, there are so many airlines that offer cheap flights all the time (your options:  Seair, Zestair, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, AirPhil and AirAsia).  Land travel from Kalibo to Caticlan is at least an hour but the flight rates are of course cheaper.  Either way you can have a land  arrangement with your hotel or you can take public transport available direct to Caticlan’s jetty port.  At Boracay’s Cagban Jetty port, there are a lot of tricycles available that can send you to your hotel.  And the next thing you just have to do is relax and enjoy!
