What comes to your mind when you think of Bangkok?? Mine is SHOPPING!! Stunning Palaces and temples, amazing food and …… their famous massage!! I’ve been to Bangkok numerous times, but I’m always short of time for shopping! Too many things to do… not much time!!
Let me walk you through some of the most interesting temples and places to see in Bangkok:
Wat Pho, The Reclining Buddha Temple- Wat Po official name being Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn is the largest and oldest wat in Bangkok at 46 meters long and 15 meters high.
The gold plated reclining Buddha illustrates the passing of the Buddha into nirvana. The Buddha is decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay on his eyes and the soles of his feet. Check the intricate designs at the bottom of the Buddha's feet.
Wat Aroon, the Temple of Dawn, is one of Bangkok's best known landmark and stands on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Thon Buri.
The prang is 67 meters tall and surrounded by four smaller prangs. It is best seen from the opposite bank of the river and according to the locals, best photographed at sunset.
The prang is so steep! |
Wat Traimit Temple of the Golden Buddha. This temple house the world's largest solid-gold Buddha
named "Phra Maha Suwanna Patimakorn" of the Sukhothai period. The
Golden Buddha is 3.98 m high and 3.13 m wide from knee to knee. It is
cast in solid gold weighing 5.5 tons.
The new home for the Golden Buddha. The Buddha was transferred to its new home on February 14, 2010.
